University of Maryland to Host Winter 2021 Commencement

Note: Due to a sharp increase in the number of COVID-19 cases on our campus, it is with a heavy heart that we are canceling all winter commencement activities scheduled for Dec. 20-22, 2021. All winter graduates will be invited to the spring ceremony in May.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland will host its 2021 winter commencement ceremony on Monday, December 20, 2021 at XFINITY Center to celebrate the academic accomplishments of graduates from the December 2021 class. The winter commencement ceremony recognizes a group of graduates that have earned an estimated 1,990 bachelor's degrees, 999 master's degrees and 353 doctoral degrees from schools and programs across the university.

Author, illustrator and creator of Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Jeff Kinney, will deliver the commencement address for the winter ceremony. The student speaker is ​​Government & Politics major Kiara Anthony '21.

PARKING/CHECK-IN:

To ensure parking and access to the commencement ceremony, media must RSVP to mediainfo@umd.edu. Media must park in lot 4b, enter through the loading dock at Xfinity Center and show their credentials.

The ceremony will be streamed live on the University of Maryland’s YouTube channel.

COVID-19 PROTOCOLS:

Face masks are required indoors, regardless of vaccination status. KN95 masks are encouraged.
