COLLEGE PARK, Md - Engineering and business master’s programs at the University of Maryland maintained their positions among the nation’s best in 2023 U.S. News and World Report rankings released today.

For the second straight year, the online MBA program at the Robert H. Smith School of Business came in at No. 12, while online graduate engineering at the A. James Clark School of Engineering took the No. 19 spot.

“Engineering gives people a powerful opportunity to create positive change in their communities through the creation and implementation of technology-driven solutions,” said Dean Samuel Graham, Jr. “We’re proud to help people work toward their engineering degrees in a top-ranked online engineering program, giving them access to outstanding peers and leaders in the field. This provides a unique environment to help people achieve their career goals.”

The online program rankings in seven master’s disciplines are based on factors including student engagement, expert opinion, faculty credentials and training, student excellence, and student services and technologies.

In U.S. News’ 2023 specialty program sub-rankings, Maryland Smith ranks sixth in marketing and eighth in business analytics. It also earned a No. 10 ranking for veterans, No. 11 for general management and No. 16 for grad business. Engineering, meanwhile, ranked No. 25 for veterans.

“This ranking speaks to our commitment to delivering an exceptional educational experience, whether your classroom is on campus, online or hybrid,” said Maryland Smith Dean Prabhudev Konana. “This high ranking reflects that our program brings significant experiential learning and executive engagement that are critical for professional development to become influential leaders.”

Offered through Maryland Applied Graduate Engineering, the online programs deliver Master of Engineering degrees in bioengineering, cybersecurity, fire protection engineering, project management, reliability engineering, energy systems engineering, software engineering and systems engineering.

The rankings represent the university’s continued efforts to reimagine its learning experiences, curricula and programs for the changing educational landscape and to better address grand challenges.
