COLLEGE PARK, MD - Maryland Athletics has partnered with UNION Craft Brewing to launch Testudo Premium Lager, the official craft beer of the Maryland Terrapins. The beer will debut in athletic venues including SECU Stadium and XFINITY Center, and retail locations across the state in August.

Named Testudo Premium Lager, the beer draws inspiration from the legendary Maryland mascot. For nearly a century, Testudo has been an enduring symbol of the university’s history and pride. Cans of Testudo depict a vintage Testudo logo, made popular during the late 1980s and 1990s.

“Partnering with UNION Craft Brewing is a perfect union,” said Brian Ullmann, Maryland Athletics’ Executive Athletic Director/Chief Strategy Officer. “Co-founded and operated by a Maryland alum, Adam Benesch, who is passionate about his alma mater, we are thrilled to offer Testudo Premium Lager to all of Terp Nation, at our events and across the DMV.”

Maryland Athletics, the University of Maryland Alumni Association and UNION Craft will host a special launch event on Wednesday, Aug. 14 at UNION Craft Brewery at 1700 W 41st Street, #420 in Baltimore, Maryland. The event, which is open to the public, will start at 4 p.m. Terp fans are encouraged to attend to get their first taste of the draft lager. For more information about the event, visit https://unioncraftbrewing.com/events/testudorelease.

The partnership with the Baltimore brewery is also intended to provide internship and new learning opportunities for students studying in the fermentation science, marketing, and other majors. A portion of the proceeds from sales of Testudo Premium Lager will benefit the One Maryland Collective, the NIL collective that serves student-athletes at the University of Maryland. NIL opportunities allow student-athletes to engage with charitable causes and participate in business engagements, building their brands while making a positive impact. The collective connects fans, alumni, businesses, and charities with student-athletes while harnessing the power of the University of Maryland. Supporters can connect with teams through memberships, tax-deductible donations, and corporate sponsorships.

UNION Craft Brewing was co-founded by Maryland alum Adam Benesch ’98, who currently serves as the company’s CEO. Benesch earned his undergraduate degree from Maryland’s Robert H. Smith Business School. UNION Craft Brewing has Maryland roots, founded in 2011, with brewing operations officially beginning in 2012 with the installation of a 20-barrel brewhouse and the launch of UNION’s flagship beer, Duckpin Pale Ale. Located within the Union Collective business hub in the Medfield neighborhood of Baltimore, UNION takes pride in creating beers that unite people and support the local community, and that is now shown with pride in partnering with Maryland Athletics.

“We are Terps through and through and being able to bring this refreshing craft beer to each of them is a dream come true for me and all of UNION Craft Brewing,” said Benesch. “We couldn’t be more excited to spread the word of Testudo Premium Lager through the region with tremendous Maryland pride.”
