January 30 UMD Freshmen Take Second Place in Global “Code Wars” On Jan. 26, 17 teams comprised of more than 60 University of Maryland students competed in the 2013 Windward Code Wars, a code challenge competition that gathers students from top universities around the world to analyze a programming problem, create a solution, and pit their skills against each other. “String Theory,” a team of UMD Computer Science and Computer Engineering freshmen, were awarded second place. January 29 Iron Man Cal Ripken to Deliver Spring 2013 Commencement Address Cal Ripken, Jr., one of the greatest baseball players of all time and a Maryland legend, will deliver the University of Maryland commencement address on May 19, 2013.
