Steve Rolston led the group that created the first ultracold plasmas in 1999. The study of ultracold plasmas involves probing that interface between single-body physics – thinking of each atom individually – and many-body physics, or collective effects. Rolston focuses on using ultracold atoms to explore various aspects of quantum science.
