#  MEDIA ADVISORY: UMD Hosts Dedication Ceremony for Lt. Richard Collins III Plaza 

 Social justice activists, community leaders, government officials, university community, family and friends gather to honor the life and legacy of Lt. Collins and advance conversations on social justice

  **COLLEGE PARK, Md -**  On Monday, May 16, the University of Maryland will host a dedication ceremony for the newly constructed Lt. Richard Collins III Plaza. The plaza will honor the life and legacy of 1st Lt. Richard W. Collins III who was killed in an act of hate on campus in 2017. The program will include social justice activists, community leaders, government officials, university leadership, family and friends of the Collins’ family, joining together to remember Lt. Collins and advance important discussions on social justice and equity for all.

The dedication will be open to the campus.

**PARKING:**

Parking is available in [Lot Y](https://maps.umd.edu/map/index.html?&feature=parking&name=Y&basemap=detailed). Parking will not be available directly adjacent to the event and there will be no opportunity to unload on any streets closer to the event, so please plan accordingly. Regents Drive between Baltimore Avenue and Chapel Lane will be closed; you must enter through the main gate at Campus Drive and Baltimore Ave.
